In a high-stakes encounter at the FIH Hockey5s Women’s World Cup 2024, the Indian women’s hockey team met with a formidable challenge, succumbing to a 2-7 defeat against the Netherlands in the championship clash on Saturday. Despite a valiant effort, the Indian side, represented by scorers Jyoti Chhatri (20’) and Rutuja Dadaso Pisal (23’), couldn't match the relentless offensive display from the Netherlands, with Janneke van de Venne (2’, 14’), Bente van der Veldt (4’, 8’), Lana Kalse (11’, 27’), and Sosha Benninga (13’) securing goals for the Dutch team.

In recognition of the commendable journey in the FIH Hockey5s Women’s World Cup, Hockey India announced a noteworthy cash award. Each player from the Indian squad will receive Rs 3 Lakhs, while the support staff will be awarded Rs 1.5 Lakhs. The final unfolded with both teams strategically seeking opportunities, but the Netherlands quickly seized control with goals from van de Venne and van der Veldt. The Indian defense faced a formidable challenge throughout the match, leading to a significant halftime deficit.
